Lost at C

I thought I did an entry on blocks yesterday or Saturday but I guess I must have forgot. Saturday was a very lame day where I read a page in the Applying UML Patterns book. Sunday was a lot better where I visited for a few hours the chapter on blocks. As Hillegass stresses, blocks are tough to figure out but I gave it a pretty good shot. The challenges were tough. I tried working through the first one but to no avail. The second one was skipped. Unlike Kochan, Hillegass takes giant leaps with his challenges. Kochan's challenges are much more targeted to the chapter.

After the confusing block chapter, I looked into some new C concepts. One was about bit operations which for the life of me, is useless. Pretty neat, but pretty useless. I skipped the challenge.

The next chapter was on C strings which Hillegass said was also not so useful but I did answer the challenge correctly which was a nice surprise. Tomorrow I start the last 10 pages of the book. Overall, this book does not even hold a candle to the Kochan book. Sorry Mr. Hillegass.

Today I received my second beginner iOS book, the one with the grapefruit on the cover (sorry, too lazy to go and get it). I will see if this will be iOS book #1 or #2. However, before that I will be reading the Apple Objective-C guide as yet another hopefully helpful guide into understanding the challenging Objective-C language.
