Hello (Apple) World!
Again, did not get a chance to get the blog up last night. But there are
reasons. I finally pulled the trigger and bought myself a MacBook Pro.
It is I guess the base model with a 500 gig drive, 4 gigs RAM, and a 13”
screen.
When I got it out of the box my older daughter showed me a few pointers
(which I promptly forgot). Remember, I come from about 25 years in the
DOS/Windows world, back in the XT/AT/386 days. Btw, I still have my
Radio Shack Tandy 1000SX with dual 5.25” floppies. Ah, old days… hmmn,
back to reality… So I got the Mac out of the box and tried to download
xcode first. Could not do it as I needed updates. So I got the updates.
Then I had to leave for a fundraiser event that the wife was running.
Got home late and installed xcode. Btw folks, it was not hard to do so I
am not sure why many of the Apple developers had issues. Well, anyway,
did not write the blog entry as I had to help older daughter with
homework. When I looked up it was midnight.
No real work done yesterday but it was a giant leap as I am now a Mac
owner. Started using the xcode this morning. So far, the IDE is leaps
and bounds better than the command console. It’s not even close. I was
able to code the first program in chapter 7 in a fraction of the time
that I did it on the console. Moreover, it would provide intellisense
and also tell me where I made mistakes or warn me about things. I think
I am really going to like this tool.
