OOPS !

Looks like I forgot to post yesterday. No! This is not a sign of laziness. Just forgetfulness. After all, I am 48! In any event, I stumbled upon something in Kochan's chapter 7 that presented me a major stoppage. At this point in the book he is showing the @property and @synthesize directives. These look great. Problem is they are Objective c 2.0. The gnu step Windows program is not at that point. Consequently, I am at an impasse. Do I read further in the abstract or do I bite the bullet and buy a Mac? Looks like I will be buying the Mac. Here is how I rationalize my purchase. If I stay with my current company then I will be able to cover the expense just by getting my paycheck. If, for any reason, I am terminated, then I would be using that time to buy and learn on the Mac anyway. In other words, as long as I am committed to Apple app development, then I am justified. The only thing that will halt me in my tracks is if I quit (which is not an option). I can even rationalize quitting by giving the Mac to my family. The more I think about it, the more it is about legacy. I am embarrassed to say that all I did was Access development in my 30 years of programming and that I never fully tested myself or went out of my comfort zone to succeed with something that is difficult. It took me this long to figure out that fear of failure actually stops me from succeeding. Anyway, I am going to buy the MacBook today or I will never get through chapter 7. Stay tuned.
