Nineteen Read...and so is 20!

I finished reading chapter 19. I liked it as it involves file I/O and things like that. As a database developer I foresee a need to do stuff like this. Moreover, it showed methods where I can take data from my own classes and save them out to files - even multiple classes at once! Then of course there is a way to retrieve these classes. In addition, it showed how one could deep copy data simply by using the NSData buffer. All good stuff. I am impressed but this class as it can handle oodles of data in one simple class.

I did not go into the exercises today so instead I skipped right to chapter 20. This was like a 3-4 page chapter with no exercises. It gave an overview of the MAC OS as well as iOS. It went through all of the layers starting with the kernel and working all the way up to the application layer. It also briefly discussed the difference between Cocoa and Cocoa Touch. I get it now... touch ... touch screen.

I am excited because the next chapter is getting into my first app. Although it will be a little tour of what I plan on using a lot of, it will be a cool glimpse. I took another OOP book out of the library today. It is written in a light funny manner. In other words, I might like it. Again, I am not sure if this is the next book or the other Objective C. We'll see.

Also, joined a few linkedIn groups, one for Xcode and another for Objective-C. Not a lot of people in these groups. Maybe good for me? In any event, one of the sites had a quiz asking how each respondent learned Objective-C. Overwhelmingly the answer was by books. One for me!

Another book I am still considering reading is that new Xcode book. I will probably stop in Barnes and Noble to check if it has a lot of Objective-C in it. If so, I'm in.
