Started the Nerd Book

The reason I was looking forward to the Nerd Ranch book is that it stresses the discussion of classic "C". The Kochan book, although having a 65 page chapter on "C", stressed that the chapter was not necessary. Hillegass (Nerd author) does otherwise. He starts the book on the C language and spends about 70 pages discussing its merits. One thing Hillegass mentions is that he will talk in depth about pointers. That was one of the challenging "C" concepts for me. I am hopeful Hillegass will make it clearer for me.

Now to the book. What Hillegass does is keep the chapters short and the exercises (which he calls challenges) few. I see that he wastes a lot of pages as he goes from chapter to chapter. I don't think this will be nearly close to as comprehensive as Kochan's book. In any event, I was happy to see that none of what Hillegass presented was challenging. Some things I did forget like how to do the ternary operator, but I remember now. At least so far I feel that I have a good foundation from the Kochan book.

Well anyway, I have finished easily the first 4 chapters and am now on the 5th chapter, the one on functions. So far, so good. Tomorrow I will be up bright and early to do more of this.

I am looking forward to receiving my $0.82 book on OOP. Should be coming in a week or so. I may intermingle it with the Hillegass book.
